If you have never meditated and you think it is not for you, this is the version to read. Trading meditation for beginners is far simpler than the word meditation makes it sound.
You do not need an app, a cushion, or an hour. You need 5 minutes, your breath, and a willingness to notice when your mind wanders. That is the entire skill.
The only method you need at the start
Sit somewhere quiet. Close your eyes. Breathe normally and put your attention on the breath, the air in, the air out.
That is it. You are not trying to empty your mind or feel blissful. You are just keeping your attention on one thing, which turns out to be surprisingly hard and surprisingly useful.
Count your breaths to ten
Here is a simple structure so you are not just sitting there. Count each out breath, one to ten, then start again. Ten should land on an exhale.
If you look up and realise you are on fourteen, or you have wandered off thinking about a trade, that is the whole exercise working. You noticed. Noticing you drifted is the rep, not a mistake. Start again at one.
The moment you catch your mind wandering and come back is the exact skill you are trying to build, so it is progress, not failure.
“You are not trying to empty your mind. You are just practising coming back to your breath, over and over.”
Why length does not matter yet
Beginners always ask how long. Short is fine. 5 minutes is a real session, not a warm up for a real session.
In practice a consistent 5 minutes beats an ambitious 30 you do once. Build the habit first, stretch it later if you want to.
The no-time excuse does not hold up
I hear I do not have time more than anything else. Be honest with yourself for a second. You almost certainly spend more than 5 minutes scrolling before the open already.
Put the session there, before you trade, and it costs you nothing you were actually using well.

When you want a voice walking you through it, the daily Breath meditation, The Count, is built for exactly this. It guides the counting so you can just follow along.
Do that once before your next session and see how the open feels. Overall, start small, keep it near your trading, and let it become normal.
Seven guided trading meditations, made around exactly what traders go through, not generic calm. Pick the one that fits your day.
Frequently asked questions
Sit quietly for 5 minutes before you trade and focus on your breath, counting each exhale to ten. When your mind wanders, notice it and start again. That simple loop is the whole beginner method.
You are not supposed to. A trading meditation is not about a blank mind, it is about noticing your attention has drifted and gently bringing it back. That noticing is the point.
Many traders feel a little calmer the same session. The trading benefit, better impulse control, builds over a few weeks of doing it consistently before the open.
