Trading Meditation Series

Not everyone can sit still, and forcing it can make a restless trader more wound up, not less. Good news: you do not have to sit.

A walking trading meditation is the same training on your feet. It suits restless traders, and it doubles as the exact break that ends a tilt.

How to walk it

Go slow, slower than normal. Put your attention on the feeling of each foot landing and lifting. When your mind wanders to the account, notice it and come back to your feet.

That is the whole method. Same catch and return as the breath, just anchored to walking instead of sitting.

Try it now
Breathe with the circle. In for 4, long out for 6.
Breathe in

Add the exhale if you are wound up

If you set off agitated, lengthen your out breath for the first minute. A long exhale is the fastest lever you have on a racing body.

Once the body settles, drop the counting and just walk with your attention on your steps.

“You are not quitting the session, you are going for the walk that ends the tilt.”

Why it suits restless traders

When you are agitated, sitting can feel like a cage and you spend the whole time fighting the urge to move. Walking gives that energy somewhere to go.

So the restlessness stops being the enemy of the practice and becomes the vehicle for it.

MOVE THE ENERGY, DO NOT FIGHT IT

If sitting still feels like a cage, walking turns the same restlessness into the practice.

The walk that ends a tilt

Here is where it earns its place. After a run of losses, the best move is to close the charts and step away. The hard part is impulse control, actually doing it.

A walk gives the leaving a purpose. You are not quitting, you are going to do your reset. By the time you are back, the pull to revenge the loss has usually faded on its own.

Pair it with the right session

When a session has gone against you, make the walk your trading meditation for the reset and pair it with our Losing Streaks meditation before you decide anything else.

Close the laptop, walk it off, come back tomorrow. One good normal trade tomorrow beats forcing it today.

Frequently asked questions

What is a walking trading meditation?

It is meditating on your feet. You walk slowly and keep your attention on each step, catching your mind when it wanders back to the account. It suits traders who cannot sit still.

Can walking really count as meditation?

Yes. The training is the catch and return of your attention, and your steps work as the anchor just as well as the breath. It is a real trading meditation, not a lesser version.

How does a walk help after a losing streak?

It gives leaving the desk a purpose, which makes the hard part, actually closing the charts, easier. By the time you are back the urge to revenge the loss has usually faded.
