FOMO is one of the most expensive feelings in trading, and it never announces itself as a feeling. It shows up as a very reasonable sounding voice telling you the move is leaving without you.
Here is the honest version. FOMO is an urge, not information, and a short trading meditation is how you learn to feel the urge without obeying it.
What FOMO actually is
You see price running and something in your chest tightens. The story writes itself: everyone is getting paid, you are being left behind, you need to be in now.
None of that is analysis. It is a body state looking for a reason. Once you can see it as a state, you stop treating it as a signal.
There is another setup tomorrow, and the one you chased was never yours to begin with.
Urge surfing: watch it instead of feeding it
The urge to chase is a wave. It rises, it peaks, and if you do nothing it fades on its own.
So notice the pull, name it, and just watch it. I will not promise it passes in some exact number of minutes, because that is folklore. What is true is that it always fades if you stop feeding it with a click.
“FOMO is an urge, not information. You can feel the whole thing and still not click.”
Use the breath to buy yourself the pause
When the pull is loud, the fastest lever is your exhale. Breathe in, then make the out breath longer than the in breath, a couple of times.
That long exhale settles your body enough to think. In practice, that small gap between feeling the urge and acting on it is where the whole decision lives.
Train it before the session, not during
Sitting with an urge and letting it pass is a skill, and skills need reps. You cannot learn it for the first time while a candle is running.
That is why a few minutes of a trading meditation before the open helps. Our Patience meditation, Doing Nothing, is built for exactly this: sitting through the gap and letting the urge to chase burn off without acting.
Seven guided trading meditations, made around exactly what traders go through, not generic calm. Pick the one that fits your day.
Frequently asked questions
Treat the urge as a wave to watch, not a signal to act. Notice it, take a couple of longer exhales, and let it peak and fade. A short trading meditation before the open trains that pause so it is there when you need it.
Usually no. FOMO is an emotion running the account, not a flaw in your setup. The fix is awareness and impulse control, not another indicator.
There is no fixed number. Anyone who says twenty minutes is guessing. What is reliable is that the urge fades on its own once you stop feeding it with a trade.
