Trading Meditation Series

One bad trade rarely stays one bad trade. It is the click after it that does the damage, the trade you take angry, trying to erase the first one.

This trading meditation is about breaking that chain early. You have had a loss. You have not had a bad day yet.

The snowball starts in your head

The first loss is just a loss. The second one, taken to get even, is where the day actually turns. That second trade is emotion, not analysis.

For me the costliest version of this is revenge trading. You are angry, you want to avenge the loss, and suddenly you are three trades deep in a hole you dug yourself.

Make tomorrow vivid

Here is a move that works when the urge to fire again is loud. Picture opening the platform tomorrow morning.

One version, you see a single ordinary loss. The other version, you see a huge hole because you kept clicking today. Make that second picture real for a second and the current urge loses most of its power.

YOU HAVE HAD A LOSS, NOT A BAD DAY

The first trade cost you a normal amount. Everything after it, taken in anger, is a choice you still get to not make.

“The first loss cost you a normal amount. The revenge trade is the one that ruins the day.”

Slow the exhale, break the loop

Anger lives in the body first. Fast breath, tight jaw, heat in the chest. If you do not settle that, the next decision is already made for you.

So before you touch the mouse again, breathe out longer than you breathe in. A few slow exhales and the urgency drops enough for the thinking part of your brain to come back online.

Interrupt the spiral before it runs

The skill is catching the spiral in the first minute, not the tenth. That is a trained reflex, and it is what a short meditation builds.

When the anger is already loud, our Revenge Trading meditation is made for exactly that moment. It gives you something to do with your hands and your attention that is not opening another position.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop one bad trade from ruining my day?

Stop the second trade, not the first. The damage comes from the angry trade you take to get even. Slow your breathing, picture tomorrow, and let the urge pass before you click.

Why does one loss make me want to trade more?

It is usually anger. You want to avenge the loss, so your brain frames another trade as fixing it. A trading meditation trains you to notice that anger before it becomes a position.

What do I do right after a losing trade?

Take a few long exhales before anything else. Get grounded, remember you have had a loss and not a bad day, and only trade again if the setup, not the anger, is telling you to.
