Trading Meditation Series

An evaluation does something to your head that a demo never does. There is a target, there is a clock running in your mind, and suddenly every trade feels like it means something. That pressure is where accounts die, and a short trading meditation is how I keep it from running the show.

The pressure is not really about the market. It is about the number you are chasing. Trade the process instead of the target and the whole thing gets a lot quieter.

The target is not your job, the setup is

Here is the trap. You look at how far you are from the profit target and you start sizing up to close the gap faster. The target starts making your decisions for you.

Your job in an evaluation is the same as any other day. Take good setups at honest size and let the number take care of itself. The firm is not testing whether you can hit a target fast. It is testing whether you can trade without blowing up.

TRADE THE PROCESS

The target is an outcome, and outcomes are not something you can click. Setups are.

Keep your size honest

The biggest mistake I see in evaluations is oversizing, and the source of it is almost never strategy. It is psychology. You feel behind, so you push risk to catch up.

Before the session, sit for five minutes and just breathe. Box breathing works well here. In slow, hold, out slow, hold, and repeat until your body drops a gear. A calm body sizes normally. An activated one rounds everything up.

“You do not pass an evaluation with a hero trade. You pass it by not blowing up.”

Where the pressure actually comes from

Awareness is the whole game. Most of the time the thing holding you back in an evaluation is one emotion you have not named yet, usually impatience or a bit of fear.

A trading meditation does not delete that feeling. It makes you notice it in the moment, and noticing it is what gives you a choice. You cannot manage a feeling you cannot see.

One ordinary trade beats one hero trade

When you feel yourself reaching for the big trade to close the gap, that is the exact feeling to catch. The evaluation is not going anywhere.

One normal trade at your usual size puts you in a far better spot than one oversized swing. Slow is not the enemy here. Reckless is.

NO HERO TRADES

You do not pass an evaluation with one big trade. You pass it by not blowing up over many small ones.

Find your line before the open

There is a state the book Best Loser Wins calls the line. It is the flat, awake, level place your judgement works from. Above it you get greedy and urgent. Below it you get scared and frozen.

Our Focus meditation, Finding The Line, is built to put you there before you touch the platform. Run it once before an evaluation session and you will feel the difference in how you size.

Frequently asked questions

How do I deal with the pressure of a prop firm evaluation?

Stop trading the target and trade your setups. The pressure comes from the number, so put your attention back on taking good trades at honest size, one at a time.

Can meditation really help me pass a prop firm challenge?

It will not place trades for you, but a short trading meditation before the session lowers your arousal so you size normally and stop forcing the target. Most evaluation failures are emotional, not technical.

How long should I meditate before an evaluation session?

Five to ten minutes is plenty, done right before you start. Consistency matters far more than length.
