Trading Meditation Series

The trade you cannot stop replaying at dinner is the one that followed you home from the desk. I have carried plenty of sessions into the evening, and none of them got better for the extra thinking.

A short trading meditation at the end of the day is how I close the session on purpose. It is not about grading the day. It is about putting it down so it stops running in the background.

Why the day follows you home

Your body does not know the market closed. If you traded activated, that state does not switch off just because the session did.

So you sit at dinner still a little wired, still arguing with a fill from hours ago. The session is over. Your nervous system did not get the message.

Try it now
Breathe with the circle. In for 4, long out for 6.
Breathe in

Settle the body before you review anything

Before you think about the day, calm the body down. The fastest lever I know is the exhale. Breathe in normally, then make the out breath longer than the in breath.

Do that for a couple of minutes. A longer exhale nudges you toward rest, which is the one small study worth knowing and the one habit worth keeping.

BODY FIRST, VERDICT LATER

You cannot review a session honestly while your heart is still trading it.

“The session is over. Your nervous system did not get the message.”

Close the day the same way whether you won or lost

This is the part people skip on green days. A win keeps you buzzing just as much as a loss keeps you stewing, and both bleed into tomorrow.

So run the same wind down every day. Same three minutes, same breath, win, loss, or a flat chop of nothing. The routine is the switch, not the result.

Leave it at the desk

When you finish, name one thing you would do the same and one thing you would change, then stop. That is the whole review.

You do not need to relitigate every click. Tomorrow is a fresh session, and carrying today into it just makes you trade two days at once.

ONE FRESH SESSION AT A TIME

Tomorrow has not happened yet, so stop trading it tonight.

Make it a nightly off switch

If you want a guided version, the Propvator Breath meditation, The Count, works well as a nightly reset. A few counted breaths and the day is done.

In short, a trading meditation at the close is the difference between finishing a session and actually leaving it. Close the laptop, breathe, walk away.

Frequently asked questions

How long should an end of day trading meditation be?

Three to five minutes is plenty. This is a wind down, not a workout. Long enough to settle the body and name one lesson, then you are done.

Should I meditate after a winning day too?

Yes. A win leaves you wired the same way a loss leaves you stewing, and both follow you into tomorrow. Run the same routine every day.

What if I keep replaying the same trade?

Settle the body first with a few long exhales, then name one thing you would repeat and one you would change. Once it has a place, it stops looping. A short trading meditation gives it that place.
