A big loss lands in the body before it lands in the account. Your chest tightens, your mind speeds up, and the arguing with what just happened starts almost instantly.
In that state you are in no shape to make another decision. A short trading meditation is not about pretending it did not sting. It is about settling the body first so you do not turn one bad trade into a bad week.
Settle the body before the mind
Right after a big loss your nervous system is switched on. An activated body cannot make a calm decision, so trying to think your way calm is backwards.
Start with the exhale. Breathe in, then let the out-breath run longer than the in-breath. A few of those and the physical alarm starts to drop, which is the only thing that gives your thinking a chance.
An activated nervous system cannot make a calm call. Settle the body and the clear head follows, not the other way round.
Stop arguing with what happened
After a big loss the mind wants to relitigate it. You replay the entry, blame the news, blame the platform, blame yourself.
None of that changes the number, and all of it keeps you locked in the moment. The loss has happened. The only thing still in your control is the next decision, and the argument is stealing your attention from it.
“A big loss is not a verdict on you. It is one number, and the next decision is still yours to protect.”
Disappointment, not shame
A big loss deserves disappointment. That feeling is proportional and it is about what you did, so you can learn from it.
It does not deserve shame. Shame is about what you are, and it turns one loss into a verdict on you as a trader. That is the thought that pushes people into a reckless trade to prove something. Keep it at disappointment.
Get out of your own head
The fastest way to break the spiral is to change what you are doing. Stand up, walk, get away from the screen for a bit.
Even outside a formal session, putting your attention on your breath for a minute helps you collect your thoughts and get grounded. You are not solving the loss. You are getting back in control of yourself.
A reset you can reach for
The point is to close the gap between the loss and your next clear decision, without doing anything reckless in between.
Our Breath meditation, The Count, is a simple place to land after a hard loss. It keeps you on the extended exhale and gives your body the few minutes it needs to come back down.

Start with your body. Use a longer exhale than inhale for a few breaths, step away from the screen, and do not make another decision until the alarm has dropped.
Usually not the same day. Trying to win it straight back is revenge trading. Reset first, then come back when you are settled.
Yes. A short trading meditation settles the nervous system and gets you out of the blame loop, which protects the next decision from becoming another mistake.
